Fey plays a ProPublica journalist on assignment in Afghanistan in the war comedy from Paramount.

When she’s not chasing the biggest story of her career, Fey’s character parties with fellow foreign reporters, including Margot Robbie’s British journalist, who informs her that she’s a 9/borderline 10 in Kabul (compared to a 6/7 in New York). Robbie, on the other hand, is a 15 in Afghanistan.

Martin Freeman plays a Scottish war photographer and Alfred Molina is a local official, who both fall for Fey’s Kim Barker.

“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” is based on former Chicago Tribune reporter Kim Barker’s 2011 memoir, “The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan.” It’s directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (“Crazy, Stupid, Love”), and written by Fey’s longtime writing partner, Robert Carlock.

“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” which also stars Billy Bob Thorton and Christopher Abbott, hits theaters on March 4.

Fey’s comedy “Sisters,” opposite Amy Poehler, opens Friday.
